Facebook Contest
Fitness 1440 Marietta wants to get social with you. We are running a Facebook Contest starting March 15th and ending May 31st. It is easy to enter and even easier to participate.

We will be giving away prizes to the top 5 members who acquire points while interacting with Facebook and the Fitness 1440 Marietta Facebook page. We will keep track of all points and post them in the club each Monday as well as email them out every other week.

How It All Works
We will give you (the member) points for the following:
·         1 Point – Every time you “check in” on FB at Fitness 1440 Marietta and each time you share one of our posts from our page
·         2 Points for taking a pictures of you exercising at Fitness 1440 Marietta - Gym Selfies
·         3 Points – For each video you take of you working with a trainer or in a class (maximum 1 video per week). Video must have you saying “I work out because (and then give your reason)”
·         5 Points – For a positive review on FB or Yelp, and shared on FB
·         10 Points – For a testimonial with a before and after picture (Max 1 entry per person)

The Importance of Balance

Balance, or better yet proprioception, is essentially your awareness of where your body is in space. Being able to remain stable and in control in a constantly changing environment is the foundation for successful movement not only in sports, but also life. The more control you have over your balance, the more efficient and safe you will be in your movements. If you execute movements on unstable surfaces (such as wobble board, stability disc, Airex pad, BOSU, etc.), you force our body to adapt to this instability by cultivating stability. This translates to better balance, strength, and performance. It is not enough to build simple-strong muscles; we must also create smart muscles that work in unison with the rest of our bodies.

Balance begins at the core because it is the foundation of all movement. Strong, efficient, and fluid movement begins with a strong foundation: your core. In every movement you perform, although it may be targeting a specific muscle group more intensely than others, it’s all tied together by your core. The more joints that are involved in the movement (such as squats, lunges and wood-chops to name a very few), the more the core is relied upon.

The less stable a surface, the more your core is relied upon as well. If you work out alone, try engaging your core first, before adding balance into your program. Use movements that are multi-planar, multi-dimensional and multi-joint. This will provide your core with the variety it needs to develop properly. I advise balance training be done under the guidance of a trained professional. Form is usually sacrificed when instability is thrown into an exercise, having a coach or trainer is ideal to excel.

Cultivating balance is a great way to add new exercises to a tired routine, breakthrough plateaus, or create a new dimension to your program. Healthy movement is done with grace and strength. Building better balance can give rise to a stronger you.

Dr. B graduated from Life University in 2010 where he played for the Life Hockey Team as one of their goal tenders. After graduating he went into practice with his father, Dr. Michael Malloy, and traveled with the Life Hockey Team as the team Chiropractor for the next 2 season, as well. Shortly thereafter he cofounded Linked Athletics and became a strength coach and Chiropractor for the players of The Gwinnett Gladiators (now Atlanta Gladiators) for 2 seasons. Dr. Brendan is now enrolled in a certification program through the ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association) focused on maternal and pediatric Chiropractic care. Why Training With Weights Is So Important


A common misconception that I have seen in the fitness world is that cardio is the end all and be all when it comes to weight loss. What many fail to realize is that strength training is an integral part of the process. The amount of calories you take in is important since you need a calorie deficit. 

However, it is your lean muscle underneath those fat layers that torch the calories 24/7. Building up that lean muscle will not only increase your metabolism but it will also change your body composition. The end result? You burn more calories even at rest! 

Strength training is extremely important for women but a lot of women have a fear of weights and are intimidated by them. The biggest concern that I hear is that they will get "too bulky" or look "too manly."  I can reassure you that this is a complete myth. Women have much more estrogen and not enough testosterone for that to happen. Also, fat is not only stored in tissues, but it is also stored intramuscularly. 

The more fat in the muscle, the bigger it's going to be. But when you start to lose the fat in your muscle, you your muscle will actually lean out. 
As women age, they are prone to losing bone density, commonly known as osteoporosis. Research has shown that resistance training can increase spinal bone density within 6 months. It can also reduce pain associated with it.  

In addition, strength training will also build stronger tissue connectivity and increase joint mobility. Reducing injury and arthritis are also some of the many benefits of weight training. Whether your goal is weight loss, injury prevention, or increased strength, I would be glad to sit down and help you come up with a program that works for you!

T.E.A.R Training Launches at Fitness 1440 Marietta

T.E.A.R. Training(Together, Everyone, Achieves Results)
T.E.A.R. Training is the most innovative and fun group workout developed and offered only at Fitness 1440 T.E.A.R. Training is a step up from traditional forms of exercising and working out.

T.E.A.R. Training combines all the fun of group training with a variety of different types of exercises to create an experience which will challenge all fitness levels, get you results and have fun. 
Over the next 60 days we will be launching 2 NEW TEAR Training programs and allowing our members to come to each one for FREE for the next 60 days starting November 16th

Here are the TEAR Training Programs we are launching over the next few months:
Cardio Blitz – Cardio Blitz is a high energy group training program which uses a variety of different cardiovascular pieces of equipment, done to music and taught by one of our FitPro Personal trainers. Cardio Blitz combines interval training along with Target Heart Rate training to give your body a complete cardio workout in 45min. Cardio Blitz is for all fitness levels as our FitPro trainer will make sure you are training properly during the class.
(Classes are Monday @ 10am and Wed @6:30pm)

HEAT – High Energy Athletic Training is the most innovative functional training program developed that can help you burn up to 800 calories an hour.  With over 200 different exercises to choose from, your FitPro trainer will select 12-15 for the group to participate in over a 45 minute period which will provide you an overall body workout. HEAT can be modified so that members of all fitness levels can experience the benefit of doing the program.
(Classes are Monday at 6pm and Wed @10am)
